Igor Bišćan is the new manager of HNK Rijeka. Bišćan will succeed Matjaž Kek who managed the Rijeka first-league team for the past five and a half years. Igor Bišćan had an impressive career as a player with Dinamo, Liverpool and Panathinaikos.
In addition, Bišćan wore the Croatian national team jersey and also was a member of the Liverpool team that, in the 2004/2005 season, won the UEFA Champions League.
After a successful career as a player, he began his career as a manager with football club Rudeš with which he won the league title in the Croatian Second League in his first season, bringing his team to the first league.
It was that season in which he took on Rijeka in the round of 16 of the Croatian Football Cup: Rijeka needed extra time to win 5:3, while Rudeš managed to come back in the game after being down 0:3. Bišćan continued his managerial career in Slovenian Olimpija where he left his mark by winning the league championship and the Slovenian Football Cup.
Dario Čanađija and Jason Davidson, Rijeka football players, were also a part of that team which played that season for Olimpija on loan.
